If you want to achieve better, smoother, and healthier hair in 2019 then you’ll need to leave behind some of your bad hair habits. Follow our tips to ensure that this year, your hair will be in its best condition yet!

Make Your Hair Healthy

If you want to make sure that your hair and scalp is healthy, then you need to make sure you are eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins and nutrients. Aim to increase Omega 3, protein and vitamins A, D and C.

Reduce Washing Your Hair

Don’t wash your hair every day, even if you feel that its greasy or oily. One of the reasons why hair becomes greasy or oily is because it is washed too often. When we wash our hair every day, we dry out our scalp and hair and this therefore means our scalp then overcompensates and begins to produce more oil. As you can see, it then becomes a viscous circle.

Our advice is to wash your hair less often and begin by washing it every other day to start with. Do this for a couple of weeks and then try and wash it every couple of days. Once again do this for a couple of weeks. In time your hair will start to take the hint and your scalp will stop producing excess oil. During the time that you are adjusting to this new way of washing, you may ned to invest in some dry shampoo.

Avoid Sleeping on Wet Hair

Although many of us do it, you need to avoid sleeping on wet hair as our hair is at its most vulnerable when it is wet. Whilst you are sleeping, any friction that your hair feels when it is wet, can affect the cuticle and this can cause breakage as well as frizz. We therefore recommend that you dry your hair before you go to bed.

Remember To Trim Hair Regularly

The best way to increase hair health is to ensure that you have it trimmed every four to six weeks to avoid split ends.

Change Your Hairstyle

Although we love to put our hair up into a bun when our hair neds washing or we are working out, it’s not actually good for our hair. Avoid putting hair up in a high bun where possible and instead wear hair half up or in a ponytail.

Use A Silk Pillowcase as Opposed to Cotton

Not only are cotton pillowcases bad for our skin they are also bad for our hair too. A cotton pillowcase will remove the moisture from your hair and make it look dull as well as make the hair prone to breakage and frizz. If you want to protect your hair then you need to be using a silk pillowcase as silk reduces friction.

Change From Cotton Towels

Standard cotton towels are too harsh on the hair and can cause the cuticle of the hair to break. Swap cotton towels for microfibre ones. Use the microfibre towel to gently remove excess water from the hair and then use a towel turban and wrap the hair up to dry some more before blow-drying.

Don’t Brush Hair When Its Wet

Avoid brushing your hair when its wet. The best thing to do is use a wide toothed comb to gently remove any tangles and always begin at the ends of the hair and work upwards. When the hair is wet, it is at its most fragile and by using a normal brush, you can cause the hair to break.

Get Enough Sleep

One of the best treatments we can give ourselves is sleep and sleep can also help our hair. When we sleep, our blood flows better and this helps to provide out hair with those much-needed vitamins, minerals and nutrients. If you don’t get enough sleep your hair can weaken and this can cause damage, breakage or hair loss.

Additionally, products that we use in our hair are believed to penetrate the hair and skin better when our bodies are at rest. Aim to get between seven and nine hours of sleep each night.

Indulge Your Hair

A new year’s resolution which is a must is to make sure that you have time for some pampering. Make 2019 the year where you spend time treating yourself and your hair by looking into the best products to suit your hairs condition, texture and length. Also consider doing some research into natural products such as Argan Oil, Moroccan oil or coconut oil.

Make Sure You Deep Condition Your Hair

As well as regularly moisturising your hair, you also need to make sure that you are deep conditioning your hair too. When you do this, you will ensure that your hair does not dry out and break, as moisture is the key to keeping your hair shiny, glossy and healthy.
